Maximizing Offshore Angling Adventures: A Sailfish Kingfish Journeys Far Beyond the Shore

Kevin and Rene Worley have spent countless hours navigating various waters, creating a unique tapestry of experiences and adventures with their shared passion for boating and angling. Their journey with their Sailfish center console has been particularly memorable, offering a blend of reliability and versatility that has supported their love for the sport. Both are water-loving boaters, having grown up in myriad environments from tropical to freshwater. Spoiler alert: they found one another in their twenties and wrapped their adventures together in beautiful Coastal Florida, where angling outings offshore are a regular occurrence. “We bought our boat before we even purchased a home!” Rene laughs.

The Worleys have found their Sailfish boat to be a reliable companion on their many adventures. Kevin regularly takes his Sailfish 238 Kingfish Edition 60-80 miles offshore his home port inlets, Ponce and St. Augustine, Florida. “What I love about this boat is that it will get you home,” he says, echoing the sentiment of Sailfish Sales & Transportation Manager Denny Warren, whose motto is “You choose to go out. You HAVE to come home.”

For the Worleys, angling is more than a pastime—it’s a way of life. Kevin’s love for the ocean began in his childhood on Amelia Island and has only grown stronger over the years. Every weekend, you can find him taking the boat out, ready to embrace the thrill of the catch. One feature that stands out for Kevin about his Sailfish is the high freeboards. Kevin highlights this as a key advantage, noting, “The freeboards in the Sailfish are pretty much the highest in the industry in class.” This high freeboard design aspect is a unique differentiator, providing a security and stability, especially during rough sea conditions. Rene particularly appreciates this, feeling safe and confident even when the seas turn choppy.

Kevin’s primary desire is to have a solid fishing platform for offshore environments. Because he and Rene go out on the water almost every weekend, they need a reliable, workable platform for hardcore angling pursuits. Kevin, also fishes competitively, for the species that are in season on the East Coast of Florida. Favorite outings include mahi, cobia and kingfish competitions. Most recently, Kevin scored big in a ‘honey hole’ for Grouper, catching a 40 lb, 50” Cobia off the coast of St. Augustine (pictured above).

Beyond the practical aspects of boating, the Worleys cherish the social connections they’ve made through their boating adventures. Rene enjoys the camaraderie they share with other Sailfish owners. Their boat, uniquely wrapped in a honeycomb pattern, often catches the eye of fellow boaters, sparking conversations and friendships at docks and marinas. Kevin worked with Nautical Restoration to make their boat uniquely theirs. “People often come up to us asking about the boat,” Rene shares, reflecting on the joy of their social nature and conversational curiosity.

Kevin adds, “Literally the Sailfish is a tank. You can go way out there and beat on the hull. People come up to the boat and they'll hit the hull with their hand, and say ‘holy moly, what is in this thing made of?’ I love to tell them it's about four inches of fiberglass with Kevlar reinforcement. And they're like, they're like, ‘Holy Smokes’!”
